- Handling, Storing, and Transporting Audiovisual Materials In this video, Marcia Segal, Processing Archivist at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, provides tips for the safe and appropriate handling, care, and storage of audio-visual materials. Marcia emphasizes the importance of knowing your environmental conditions and she provides some guidelines for storing audio-visual collections. This video supplements Segal's SHN session, "Physical Care and Storage of Audio Visual Materials" given at the 2015 Post-ATALM SHN Workshop, held at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC on September 13-15, 2015.
- Audio Preservation of Wax Cylinders and Grooved Media Tom Rieger of the NEDCC discusses an innovative system for recover audio from damaged wax cylinders and records called IRENE. This session provides updates on NEDCC's progress on this IMLS grant project to bring the IRENE technology to cultural institutions across the nation, and will provide some wonderful listening from days gone by as well. This presentation was given at the 2014 ATALM Conference in Palm Springs, California.
- Preserving Digital CollectionsIn this session, Ann Marie Willer, Director of Preservation Services, NEDCC Northeast Document Conservation Center, discusses how organizations that have recordings of oral histories, digital or digitized photographs and documents, formatted video files, and other materials in digital form can take steps toward preserving these materials. This presentation outlines how assessment can make these challenges more manageable, and introduces newly-released, free resources for assessing digital preservation of collections. This session was part of the ATALM annual conference held in Prior Lake, Minnesota, on October 8-11, 2018.
